Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

The TK program is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children who are developmentally young and who need an additional year of growing so that they may be successful when entering a full-day kindergarten program. In essence, this program allows students more time to absorb and express ideas, learn more about friendships, assert their independence, and examine the world around them through many hands-on activities. 

TK is 5 days/week and follows the Gehlen Catholic School calendar. Students may be dropped off starting at 8:00 AM through Door Q. The school day is from 8:20 AM - 3:20 PM.

GOAL: The development and mastery of skills needed for kindergarten
RATIO: 1 teacher to 18 students
CURRICULUM: Early childhood curriculum in the areas of literacy, math, science (STEM), physical fitness, social/emotional development, and faith formation
SPECIALS: Art, Library, Music, and Physical Education (PE)
SCHOLARSHIPS: Diocesan, ESA, and Gehlen Catholic scholarships are available

Morning & Afternoon Schedule

The first half of the TK day is academically based, and the second half is activity-based all with instruction by a certified teacher. Students will benefit from a rich curriculum that includes prayer, language and literature enrichment, science and math experiences. The afternoon of TK includes rest, snacks, and creative playtime.
